Fear of High Schoolers - an e.p
During April and May this year, I was part of the 2019 Tintamarrathon Theatre Group. Alongside 7 theater enthusiasts, we toured through New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, performing plays at 19 schools in two weeks. This meant lots of time in the car listening to music. The great thing about this was that we could hear each other sing their favorite song with a lot of passion (i.e. the whole Hamilton musical). One thing led to another and we decided that during the hours we were free from touring, we would put together an e.p of our own. We practiced Marigold and Simmer Roll in the car and the lounge area of Bermuda House where we stayed.
You may be wondering who these amazing people are, well let me tell you. These people are Caitlin, Noémie, Gabbie, Gillian, Gabe, and Evan. We called our group chat on Facebook "Fear of Highschoolers". Performing in front of highschoolers was a weird experience. It's not only strange to go back into highschool, but also to go to so many different high schools in a short period of time. You get a quick glimpse of what each school's atmosphere is like. Highschool can be a very strange, isolating experience where hierarchies are ever-present. Therefore, we felt that acting in front of high schoolers was a surprisingly more nerve-racking experience in comparison to performing in front of university students and adults.
If you're interested here are the lyrics to Simmer Roll.
Simmer Roll
Lay down on the floor I don’t see you anymore Who’s going back, to pick the l past I liked your boat I think you were the god of quiet nights I’ll give you that I find myself picking up scraps I gave you more than you needed Till you didn’t need me anymore told me to go You’re more than what you say But no more than what you mean It’s a hell of a lot sometimes All I can say is I understand It wasn’t make-believe, I hope Simmer roll, where’d you go liver’s gone, retreat at the end of the road when will I be ready to face, what’s gone It’s all gone. See you’ve cut the cord Dream of what’s not here anymore So what do you do, where do you go how to perceive the worst in yourself and still see far beyond your warmth betrays the room the cold couch calls out come here Smooth like a rolling stone or a closing door You’re more than what you say But no more than what you mean It’s a hell of a lot sometimes All I can say is I understand It wasn’t make-believe, I hope Simmer roll, where’d you go liver’s gone, retreat at the end of the road when will I be ready to face, what’s gone It’s all gone Singers: Caitlin O'Connor, Noémie Chiasson, Gabrielle Gagnon, A.H Songwriter/producer: A.H
Here are the lyrics of Marigold:
Marigold
I want to stay the same I'm gonna stay right here and keep talking to myself like I’m the one Running from every kind of game But I'm gonna stay right here and keep talking to myself like I’m the one Like I’m the world You're waved out town, I’m a marigold dipped in gold you're the famous little family’s cure, Embrace yourself, Cause honey I’m going places Singing lots of songs and living a lifelong camouflage am I made of what I don’t remember? alive cause I’ve got a bad memory forgetfulness can cure you start to see an empty bed thought you’ve been sleeping alone your whole life, Aren’t we all who we aren’t? Like I’m the world You're waved out town, I’m a marigold dipped in gold you're the famous little family’s cure, Embrace yourself, Cause honey I’m going places Singing lots of songs and living a lifelong camouflage Singers: Caitlin O'Connor, Noémie Chiasson, Gabrielle Gagnon, and me Songwriter/producer: Aume
